Alex won't rush Maynard

Crewe Alexandra have vowed to be patient with Nicky Maynard and not rush the striker back from a broken leg.

The 21-year-old forward has been sidelined since suffering the injury in August's season-opener.

Last term's 20-goal marksman has recently returned to training, but Alex first-team coach Steve Holland will not rush him back into action.

"He feels a bit sluggish with his overall fitness because he's been out for a long time," Holland told the club's official website.

"We'll resist the temptation to bring him back until he's ready."

Meanwhile, Holland has ruled out the possibility of bringing former captain Kenny Lunt back to the club on a loan basis from Sheffield Wednesday.

He added: "We have enough players here who can play in central midfield and I'd like to give our own players a chance there rather than bring someone in on a short-term loan."
