Crewe Alexandra are still hoping to entice Burnley striker Steve Jones back to Gresty Road.
Relegation-threatened Alex have brought in Gary Roberts and Kenny Lunt on loan recently, but that has not stopped first-team coach Steve Holland continuing to monitor Jones' recovery from a knee injury.
The Clarets have agreed to let Jones move to Crewe, but the striker is still battling back from the problem.
"Steve was three weeks away from fitness a week ago, but the longer he's been out the more rehabilitation he's going to need," Holland told the Stoke Sentinel.
"That's a deal we're still optimistic about and we'd still do it. Even if we were to extend the loans of Gary and Kenny, we'd still want to bring Steve back."
Alex have also been linked with loan moves for Hibernian striker Clayton Donaldson and Norwich City youngster David Martin recently.
