Crewe Alexandra have revealed their interest in signing a new left-back as a replacement for wantaway Billy Jones.

Jones has snubbed the offer of a new contract at Gresty Road and looks certain to leave in January's transfer window, leaving Alex to start scouring the market for new faces, with Grimsby Town's Tom Newey and Bury's Tom Kennedy both heavily linked in recent reports.

Assistant boss Neil Baker confirmed: "We're not close to signing a new left-back which is why we were looking at loans last week.

"We're looking at plenty and the two names mentioned, we've looked at them."
