Alex snap up striker
16 Nov 2007 - 13:27:46
Crewe Alexandra have signed Southampton striker Cedric Baseya on a one-month loan deal and he will be eligible for the clash with Northampton Town.
The signing of 19-year-old Baseya will come as some relief to the Railwaymen's backroom staff after suffering a recent striker shortage due to injuries to Lee Barnard and Nicky Maynard.
Also, in-form striker Simon Church who is on loan from Reading, is still required on international duty with Wales for their Under-21 qualifying matches with France and Bosnia.
Technical director Dario Gradi told the club's official website: "He's a big, powerful lad, who likes to head it and has an eye for goal.
"He runs about and, if he's as good as we think he is, then he'll be a suitable replacement for Simon Church, who has given us that presence and enthusiasm up there."
Baseya has yet to make his first-team debut for the Saints, although he has been a regular at reserve level and added to his goal tally in midweek with an overhead kick against Millwall.
