Crewe midfielder Gary Roberts could be ruled out of the club's relegation battle with a troublesome back injury.
The former youth team starlet has impressed this season, but has missed the last three games because of injury and will find out how severe the problem is later this week when the affected area is medically examined.
Alex boss Dario Gradi is hopeful the problem is not too bad and he will be able to call upon his services in the last few weeks of the campaign.
"He looks to be a long way off a return to training but hopefully we will be able to call upon his again this season," he said.
