Crewe have pulled out of a deal to sign Damian Spencer after the Cheltenham Town striker failed a medical at Gresty Road.
The Railwaymen had agreed a fee with their League One rivals for the 26-year-old striker, but a medical revealed Spencer had not fully recovered from a knee injury picked up on Boxing Day.
"The player has unfortunately not passed his medical, which is a disappointment to him and for us," first-team coach Steve Holland told the club's official website.
"We will not be taking it any further on this occasion and he will return to his club."
Meanwhile, Crewe have confirmed they have made a bid for another unnamed striker.
