`Ugly' win leaves Gradi flat
Crewe manager Dario Gradi was unhappy with the manner of his side's victory after they ground out an "ugly" 1-0 home win over Southend.Shaun Miller hooked home his 16th goal of the season in the 75th minute to keep the Railwaymen in touch with their play-off rivals, but Gradi was far from impressed with the quality on show."That was very, very poor, especially in the first half," he said. "It was a poor effort, poor understanding and poor skill from us and I didn't think the players were listening to me."It got better and we got effort in the second half and we defended well, but to be honest I wasn't that impressed with them and didn't think they offered us any real threat."I turned to Paul Sturrock halfway through the second half and said shall we take 0-0 and go home. I'm glad he didn't take me up on it."Sometimes you have to win ugly. I don't like winning ugly, but I'm sure I'll feel better about it after a few glasses of wine."
