Steve Davis vows not to talk about conceding as Crewe strike back for point

Crewe boss Steve Davis has vowed not to talk about conceding goals after seeing his side come from two down to earn a 2-2 draw at Rochdale.

They looked in trouble just six minutes into the match as the home side tore out of the blocks with two quickfire goals.

And pleased though he was with the spirited comeback, Davis was disappointed with the poor start.

He said: "It seems the more I talk about conceding goals, the more we concede, so I'm not going to talk to the players about that again before the end of the season.

"I don't know what it is, we talked about what to do in the early part of the game and then they don't do it, the opposition seem to do it much better.

"But to be fair to the players, we came here last season and capitulated after going behind, we lost 4-0, this time we showed great determination and spirit to get back into the game with some great football very quickly and two great goals.

"It was a real up and down day for Ryan (Seager), scoring his first goal then suffering an injury. That took the momentum out of the game and we all felt sorry for him. I'm not too sure about the extent of the injury, we'll wait to hear on that."

Rochdale were ahead after just 90 seconds. Nathaniel Mendez-Laing beat Zoumana Bakayogo on the right and sent over a deep cross which Rhys Bennett met with a firm header, his effort looping over Ben Garratt and into the net.

And Dale's sizzling start continued when Bennett dispossessed Oliver Turton and fed Ian Henderson, his low cross turned in by Joe Bunney from close range after just six minutes.

But Crewe showed no signs of crumbling and forced their way back into the game when Marcus Haber was quick to pounce on Ben Nugent's flick-on, turning the ball past the Dale goalkeeper from all of three yards before Ryan Seager stroke home from the edge of the six-yard box.

Dale boss Keith Hill said: "It's a valuable point I think and there was a lot that pleased me.

I certainly didn't coach some of that but when you get caught up in a moment it is difficult to change the momentum and it's up to players to try to change that course.

"I have seen the likes of (fellow managers Carlo) Ancelotti and (Jose) Mourinho not able to change the course of games, it's down to the players.

"It was a great start by us and I was expecting us to cement that with the victory but we didn't. I was pleased with the clean sheet in the second half and I'm pleased to pick up a point."
