Crewe manager Dario Gradi has revealed the club are to offer trialist Lewis Short a 12-month contract. The 20-year-old winger played for non-league Congleton Town in the last campaign but was invited to train with the Railwaymen during pre-season and has effort has been rewarded. Gradi told the club's official website: "We will offer Lewis a year because he has done well for us and trained well. We are learning more about him all of the time and he is one for the future. "He is not ready to play in the team at the moment but he could be during the 12 months. He is a lefty, has a good left foot and good ability. "We think there is something to work on with him and he is another young player we think could become a player." Meanwhile, striker Calvin Zola is a doubt to face Barnet on Saturday after tweaking knee ligaments in training on Monday.
