Crewe goalkeeper Steve Phillips is nearing a return to first-team contention after stepping up his training routine this week. Phillips, who made a permanent move to Gresty Road during the summer following a loan spell from Bristol Rovers last season, is recovering from double shoulder surgery. Alex boss Dario Gradi told the club`s official website: "Steve is not that far away now. "He has been out working with the ball and saving shots again. He has been diving around and going through routines. "Steve is nearly there and a return to full training cannot be far off. We said he would be back sometime in September and he is getting close."
