The goalkeeper has already turned down the offer of a two-and-a-half year deal from Crewe after failing to agree a severance deal with the Pirates.[LNB]"The solution, as far as we are concerned, is to loan him to Crewe until the end of the season on the same basis, financially, as his current loan deal," Lawrence told the club's official website.[LNB]"I've already spoken to Dario (Gradi), and Steve's agent, and suggested that to them and it seems to be the way forward in this situation and I feel that this would be the best thing for Steve's career."[LNB]The club is also making good progress over out-of-contract midfielder Chris Lines, Lawrence added: "We have made some progress, regarding his contract situation, and I'm reasonably confident that things can be closed in the not to distant future."[LNB]Lawrence has also held talks with Colchester boss Aidy Boothroyd about bringing former loanee Pat Baldwin back to the Memorial Stadium. He said: "The plan, and the most likely scenario, is that we will take him on loan until the summer, but we'll have everything in place for it to become a permanent deal in the summer."[LNB][LNB]
