New deal for Crewe keeper

Experienced goalkeeper Steve Phillips has signed a new contract at Crewe. The 32-year-old will stay at Gresty Road until the summer of 2012. Phillips joined Crewe on loan from Bristol Rovers in November 2009 and played 29 times last season before agreeing a permanent contract with the League Two club. However, shoulder surgery at the end of last season has restricted Phillips to just one start for Alex this campaign after on-loan Chelsea keeper Rhys Taylor established himself as the first choice. Phillips has spoken regularly of his desire for first-team football and had the chance to join Lincoln on loan in January, only for the move to fall through at a late stage. His only start for Crewe this season came in a 2-1 victory over Bradford on January 25, while Taylor was serving a one-match suspension.
