Maguire earns another chance

On-trial midfielder Danny Maguire will be given more time to earn a contract at Gresty Road after impressing in the 5-0 friendly win at Nantwich. The 20-year-old was released by QPR in 2009 after a cruciate knee ligament injury ended his hopes of securing a long-term contract at Loftus Road. But after spending a year out of the game through injury, Maguire has caught the eye of the staff at Gresty Road. Assistant boss Steve Davis told The Sentinel: "Danny looks a little terrier-type, so we'll continue to have a look at him. "We'll keep him on for the moment. He looked nice on the ball and while he got tired, he hasn't had a lot of football as he's come back from an injury. He's a decent passer, who has shown well in training." On-trial goalkeeper Bartek Folger is also hoping to earn a deal with the League Two side and Davis added: "I thought he did good things and bad things. On the whole he did well and he got a clean sheet out of it, but maybe his decision-making could have been better."
