Macclesfield took a giant stride away from the League Two drop zone courtesy of a classic strike from makeshift striker Ross Draper which sealed a 1-0 win over Crewe With forwards Emile Sinclair and Ricky Sappleton suspended, Macc manager Gary Simpson threw midfield man Draper further forward and the bold move paying dividends after 41 minutes when his rising drive crashed into the roof of the net. However it was Mac keeper Jose Veiga who ensured Crewe extended their losing streak away from home to seven games with a magnificent performance. The highlight was his 75th-minute penalty save to deny Clayton Donaldson after the Alex striker had been brought down by Nat Brown. Veiga again came to the rescue in the 88th minute when he made an agile double save to deny Shaun Miller, before again thwarting Miller in injury time when he smothered his close-range shot. Crewe had wasted chances throughout the game with Adam Dugdale heading wide in the 28th minute and Luke Murphy finding the side netting shortly after the restart. Yet Macclesfield could have extended their lead in the 61st minute when Tyrone Barnett hit a post from a narrow angle.
