Leitch-Smith pushing for start

Ajay Leitch-Smith is in contention to make his first start of the season when Crewe travel to Chesterfield. The 20-year-old striker has scored twice in three substitute appearances this season, most recently to earn Alex a point against Macclesfield on Tuesday night. He then added strength to his claims for a starting role by scoring two goals for the reserves the following day. "Ajay is definitely in contention for his first start," said Alex assistant manager Steve Davis. "We are struggling to take chances, so we can't ignore that Ajay is staking his claim." Joel Grant could be a doubt after he was substituted at half-time against Macclesfield. Crewe extended their unbeaten league run to seven games against the Silkmen, however, five of those have been 1-1 draws.
