Hudson sinks wasteful Railwaymen

19 September 2009 18:49
The Railwaymen should have been two-up after four minutes. Shaun Miller fired wide at the near post and both Calvin Zola and Anthony Elding failed to connect with Billy Jones' pinpoint cross. The hosts took the lead in the 15th minute when former Aldershot man Joel Grant's defence-splitting pass put Miller clear to slot the ball around keeper Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz. Hudson should have levelled but he mistimed his jump when John Halls put in the perfect centre. Scott Donnelly did restore parity with a 33rd-minute free-kick courtesy of a wicked deflection. Crewe were guilty of missing more chances when Miller's one-on-one was blocked by Jaimez-Ruiz only for Zola to screw over the rebound with the goal at his mercy. And the Railwaymen were punished when Hudson turned Patrick Ada in the box and rifled home a stunning finish in the 66th minute. Miller then saw a header cleared off the line by Chris Blackburn and Zola missed another great chance as Crewe looked for the elusive equaliser.
