Gradi wants more goals

Dario Gradi believes Crewe should have beaten Macclesfield more comprehensively in the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy. Alex reached round three courtesy of a 4-2 victory at Moss Rose but wasted several chances to make the scoreline more emphatic. Crewe chief Gradi was pleased with the football his side played but lamented their profligacy at times. "We could have scored a lot more goals and just needed a more clinical finish, but the quality of our play was very good," he said. "I've been wanting to play Joel Grant and Clayton Donaldson up front together for some time and because Ajay Leitch-Smith was sore (on Tuesday morning) it gave me a good excuse and I was pleased with the way they played. "I'm happy with the way the team is playing but frustrated we haven't really got our just desserts. We should be a lot higher in the league but I feel that the club is in a good position for where we are. We're in the bottom half of the lowest league but we've got a healthy squad and are beginning to play good football."
