Gradi targets defensive reinforcements

Dario Gradi identified Crewe`s defending over the course of 46 matches as the main reason why they found themselves outside the top seven. The Alex`s emphatic final day 5-1 victory at Bradford saw them finish the season in 10th, three points adrift of the play-off places. Gradi said: "We have scored a club-record number of goals - 87 in the league - but the reason we are in mid-table is that we have let in too many. "Even with the penalties we have missed we wouldn`t have got into the play-offs so we will be looking for defenders in the summer." One issue Gradi will be addressing in the close season is the future of out-of-contract star striker Clayton Donaldson. Gradi said: "If he decides to stay we will be glad to have him. If he wants to leave we will wish him well."
