Gradi ponders striking options

Crewe chief Dario Gradi has decisions to make about his strikers ahead of the visit of Torquay. Shaun Miller and AJ Leitch-Smith, making his first start of the season, came in for Joel Grant and Clayton Donaldson against Chesterfield last weekend and ran the Spireites ragged inside the opening half-an-hour at the b2net Stadium as Alex raced into a 4-1 lead. However, Grant and Donaldson were recalled for the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy victory at Macclesfield on Tuesday night. "I think we caught Chesterfield a bit cold with the movement of our two strikers," said Gradi. "Shaun (Miller) is always there or thereabouts and I'd be surprised if he didn't finish as our top goal scorer, while AJ (Leitch-Smith) will score goals too. He didn't manage one on Saturday but he did very well for Shaun's goal. "Clayton (Donaldson) also came off the bench to get a goal and Joel Grant scored in midweek, so I have options. But none of our strikers have done well enough to guarantee a place in the starting XI." Mat Mitchel-King could be in line for a recall should Gradi opt to change a defence that has conceded nine goals in the last four matches in all competitions.
