Gradi not resigned to losing Donaldson

Crewe manager Dario Gradi has not given up hope of retaining the services of Clayton Donaldson. The striker, who has scored 28 goals and been voted the club's player of the season, is out-of-contract in the summer and is to hold talks with Gradi this week to determine his future. Although Gradi expects Donaldson to leave, he is still holding a slight hope that the striker may stay at Gresty Road. "I've been saying for a while that I expect to lose Clayton in the summer and I still expect to lose him, but I will have a chat with him this week and see what his plans are," Gradi told the club's official website. "He may well turn round and say thanks Dario but I know what I'm doing next season and if that is the case then good luck to him because he has been terrific for us. I also think we have been terrific for him. "He would be a free transfer in the summer and I doubt we would be able to match his wages if he was to go to a bigger club but there is a maybe there, so we'll see."
