Gardner needs time - Gradi

Dario Gradi is not yet ready to risk rookie striker Dan Gardner in the Crewe first team. The 19-year-old made his senior debut as a second-half substitute in the recent derby win at Port Vale after signing a short-term deal with Alex. But Crewe boss Gradi insists the former Celtic trainee's stamina is not good enough for him to start a game yet. "At the moment I would play Joel Grant at centre forward ahead of Dan," admitted Gradi. "He froze at Port Vale. His legs went weak. His game is based on energy. "I'd like to give him a go between now and the end of the season, but we need to win a couple of games before that. "In the meantime, we'll try to get a reserve game organised for him."
