Dario: Davies is the right man

Dario Gradi has backed his assistant Steve Davis to eventually succeed him as Crewe manager. The Alex boss believes former Nantwich Town manager Davies, who has been number two at Gresty Road for 14 months, should be a leading contender to replace him when he steps down. However, Gradi, 69, insists he has no plans to retire just yet. "If it came down to it and the club was looking for a successor then Steve Davis would be one of the outstanding candidates for the job," said Gradi, speaking at a fans` forum. "I won't carry on forever but I am healthy and know I am a better manager than I was three years ago. At the moment I am the best man for the job. If I thought there was someone out there prepared to come here and do the job better, then I would happily step aside. "But it is not for me to comment on who should come in after me. That is a question for the board of directors for the future."
