Newly promoted League One side AFC Rochdale have taken former defender Banny O'Donnell on trail. O'Donnell was released at the end of May after joining Crewe back in 2007 for £100k from Premiership side Liverpool. The Liverpool born defender initially joined the club on loan spell at the Alex back in August 2006 for six-months which was then extended during his loan spell he made 25 appearances scoring one goal.24-year-old O'Donnell then signed a 3-year-deal with the Railwaymen in 2007 and went onto make 78 league appearances netting two goals.O'Donnell's last appearance for the Railwaymen was in the 2-1 defeat at home to Cheltenham back in April. O'Donnell notched up 27 appearances last season but a bad stat was the in the appearances the team conceded 43 goals. A mistake in the Cheltenham game more or less ended his career at Crewe and coaching staff felt that the club needed new blood to curb a some what shaky defence.
