Daggers boss keen on Alex defender

Still revealed their League Two rivals' valuation of the player was more than the Daggers could afford, but he has not given up hope of bringing the full-back to Essex.

"We have asked about Billy but the money that they wanted for him was more then we could afford," Still told the Post.

"We have said that if they come back with something closer to our valuation then we would be willing to talk."

Jones started his career at Leyton Orient before joining Exeter and he moved to Gresty Road for £85,000 in May 2007.

The 26-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer, has not featured for Crewe since a 2-1 home defeat to Port Vale on October 17.
