Alex to assess duo

Crewe boss Steve Davis will assess the fitness of attacking midfield duo Chuks Aneke and Brad Inman ahead of the npower League One visit of Shrewsbury.

Aneke and Inman returned to training ahead of Tuesday's postponed encounter against Sheffield United following time on the sidelines with respective knee and ankle complaints.

On-loan Arsenal youngster Aneke is currently rated as more likely to return than Newcastle counterpart Inman.

Michael West is poised to return to training on Friday after recovering from a hip problem but the former Ebbsfleet midfielder is not yet ready for a return to first-team action.

Nathan Ellington is hoping to make his Alex debut after being an unused substitute for last weekend's 2-1 victory over Colchester, where fellow striker and England Under-19 international Max Clayton made his first start for more than a month.

Defender Jon Guthrie is out for the rest of the season following hernia surgery.

Shrewsbury boss Graham Turner is likely to keep faith with a winning line-up.

Town clinched a 3-2 victory away at MK Dons on Tuesday thanks to a brace from on-loan striker Tom Eaves, ending a sorry sequence of three successive defeats.

The welcome three points has now put valuable breathing space between the Shrews and the League One drop zone and Turner is likely to see no reason for change at Gresty Road.

Striker Marvin Morgan came in for Chris Porter at stadium:mk as the only change from the XI who went down 2-0 at home to Leyton Orient last weekend and he can again expect to start.

It remains to be seen whether long-term absentee Jermaine Grandison earns a place on the bench having pretty much completed his rehabilitation after a hip injury. Fellow defender Rob Edwards (thigh) and midfielder Mark Wright (knee) remain unavailable.
