Oliver set to return

Crewe boss Steve Davis believes striker Vadaine Oliver could return to action when they face bottom-of-the-table Gillingham.

The 21-year-old summer signing from Lincoln missed the draw with Oldham last weekend due to a dead-leg but Davis revealed that was more as a precaution given he had trained on Friday.

Oliver did feature for the Alex's reserve team against Walsall on Tuesday, as did midfielder Anthony Grant who should also be available despite suffering from a sore back of late.

Full-back Gregor Robertson (knee) is still out so Jon Guthrie will probably fill in once more while striker Mathias Pogba (knee) and goalkeeper Alan Martin (hip) remain sidelined.

Gillingham boast a fully-fit squad as they chase their first win of the season.

The Kent club fell to a seventh defeat in their opening 10 games of the season courtesy of last weekend's 1-0 home reverse to Bradford, with manager Martin Allen and his squad working hard this week in a bid to turn matters around.

The Gills boss has hinted he could make numerous changes and the likes of Danny Kedwell, Chris Whelpdale and Steven Gregory are all hoping for recalls.

Gillingham go into the clash at the foot of the League One table but know a long-awaited victory could take them out of the bottom four.
