Trio in frame for Alex debut

Steve Davis has strengthened Crewe's squad ahead of Saturday's Sky Bet League One clash with Doncaster by bringing in Nicky Ajose, Uche Ikpeazu and Anthony Stewart on loan.

With Alex having scored just two goals in six games, Davis swooped to land striker Ajose from Leeds, with the 23-year-old having netted 17 times last term for Swindon and Peterborough before moving to Elland Road.

Watford forward Ikpeazu scored four goals in 15 appearances for Alex last season to help stave off the threat of relegation and the 19-year-old is back until late January.

Stewart arrives from Wycombe as centre-half Alan Tate has been struggling with a thigh strain, while Matt Tootle is recovering from a viral infection which has kept him out for five games.

Doncaster expect to have an unchanged squad for the trip.

Rovers boss Paul Dickov must decide whether to name an unchanged team, following last weekend's 3-1 win at Rochdale. Dean Furman had to make do with a place on the bench against Dale, having only returned from international duty with South Africa the day before the game, but the midfielder will be pushing for a recall should Dickov opt to tweak one or two things.

Dickov's injury issues appear to be easing, with only teenager Ben Askins not training on Thursday.

Defenders Rob Jones, Jamie McCombe and Cedric Evina (knee) could be back in first team contention after next week's development squad fixture.
