Lowe blow for Crewe ahead of clash with Cheltenham

Crewe have seen their top-scorer Ryan Lowe depart the club ahead of Saturday's League Two home clash with Cheltenham.

The 38-year-old has had his contract with the Railwaymen terminated by mutual consent so he can take up a player/coach role at Bury.

Fellow striker Jordan Bowery, recently brought in on loan from Leyton Orient, made his debut in last Saturday's 3-1 loss at Doncaster and is set for his home bow.

Callum Ainley (ankle) is a doubt and Billy Bingham and Callum Saunders (both hamstring) remain sidelined, while it is expected Harry Davis, who has not been part of the matchday 18 since his father Steve Davis was sacked as Crewe boss earlier this month, will once again be missing.

Harry Pell is available for Cheltenham following suspension.

The midfielder missed the home loss to Plymouth but could make an immediate return as the Robins seek a third win over Crewe this season.

Striker Kyle Wootton, who has signed on loan until the end of the season from Scunthorpe, could make his debut.

Dan Holman could start after coming off the bench against Argyle, when Asa Hall was an unused substitute.
