Tom Hitchcock in line for Crewe start

Crewe will look to Tom Hitchcock to boost their firepower against Barnsley after the striker rejoined the club on loan from MK Dons until the end of the season.

During his last loan spell at Gresty Road in December 2013 Hitchcock scored three goals in six appearances and will be looking to give his side's League One survival bid a similar boost this time around as he comes in following Ryan Seager's return to Southampton because of a serious knee injury.

Manager Steve Davis is already coping without the goalscoring talents of forwards Lauri Dalla Valle, who has an ankle injury, and George Cooper who has a thigh problem.

Davis will hope central defenders Harry Davis and George Ray can return from knee and ankle injuries respectively to face the Reds, with Semi Ajayi's loan spell from Cardiff at an end following the 3-1 defeat to Chesterfield.

Barnsley will be without suspended winger Adam Hammill and injured defender Aidy White as they look to maintain their play-off push.

Hammill starts a three-game ban following his straight red card in the goalless midweek draw at Bury, while White is sidelined long term with ankle ligament damage.

George Williams has stepped in at left-back for White, while caretaker boss Paul Heckingbottom has no new injury worries.

Defender Lewin Nyatanga is in contention and recent signings Shaun Tuton and Otis Khan are still waiting for their first appearances but winger Ryan Williams (groin) is still out.
