Crewe V Accrington Stanley at The Alexandra Stadium : Match Preview

03 February 2012 11:01
Duo miss out for Alex Crewe are without suspended defensive duo Adam Dugdale and David Artell for the visit of Accrington. Railwaymen skipper Artell received his marching orders for a professional foul on Izale McLeod in last weekend's 2-0 defeat to Barnet, before Dugdale reduced Alex to nine men before half-time with a reckless lunge on Ricky Holmes. The pair will serve one and three-match suspensions respectively and boss Steve Davis will consider moving either Carl Martin or Harry David to the heart of defence after a move to loan Jack Saville from Southampton failed on transfer deadline day. Crewe have no new injury worries to contend with as Lee Bell (hernia) remains their only injury absentee, although they are slightly stretched in midfield following Jamie Lowry's return to Chesterfield at the end of his loan spell. Danny Shelley may earn a recall in place of the departed Spireite. The defeat at Barnet ended a run of three consecutive npower League Two victories for Davis' side Accrington caretaker manager Leam Richardson has no new injury worries. Stanley hung on in dramatic circumstances to win 4-3 against Gillingham last weekend in Richardson's first game at the helm since John Coleman's departure to Rochdale and he could enjoy the luxury of naming an unchanged side. Charlton loanee Michael Smith will continue in attack having marked his home debut in style with a hat-trick against the Gills. Sean Hessey is approaching fitness but remains unavailable due to a hamstring injury, while fellow defender Tom Bender has returned to parent club Colchester for treatment on a similar complaint. Long-term injury victim Alan Burton remains on the sidelines as he continues his recovery from a double hernia operation before Christmas.
