Crewe contract talks on hold

Crewe boss Dario Gradi has put contract talks with a number of first-team players on hold - because he is unsure what division the Railwaymen will be playing in next season. A number of young prospects have already put pen-to-paper on new deals at Gresty Road, but regulars like Clayton Donaldson, Joel Grant and Patrick Ada are approaching the final months of their existing deals without new terms on the table. Gradi told the club`s official website: "If I'm honest I haven't given that too much thought at the moment because we do not know what level we will be playing at or what the budget will be like. "At the moment we couldn't be offering Clayton the same wages he is on at the moment because we were playing in League One at the time when he signed for us. It is the same with Joel. "We will just have to see where we are at the end of the season and then think about movement there. If we were to get promoted then of course our chances of keeping some of them would improve. "We offered the younger ones new deals because it is important that we protect our assets because they usually command the most money when they are sold on. Only Byron hasn't signed at the moment but we would still get a fee for him because of his age."
