Crewe can unearth 'gems' - Baker

Crewe Alexandra chief scout Neil Baker believes they can unearth more stars from outside the Football League.Manager Dario Gradi has said that he cannot afford to strengthen in January. [LNB]But Baker told BBC Radio Stoke: "We've picked up players like Colin Little, Tom Pope and Luke Varney in the past, so they are out there. [LNB]"People will say they're not, but they are watching Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal. We're watching Hyde, Stalybridge and Woodley Sports." [LNB]When asked about signing new players during the transfer window, Gradi told BBC Radio Stoke: "If I told the board I'd found a real bargain, I'm sure they'd have a good go at scraping the money together." [LNB]Crewe signed defender Carl Martin from non-league Wealdstone in October, but he is yet to make a first-team appearance for the club.
