Crewe 3-0 Wycombe: Report

08 January 2011 18:14
Donaldson the hero for Alex Clayton Donaldson hit two goals in two minutes as Crewe claimed a 3-0 win over Wycombe, which ended the Chairboys five-game winning streak. Shaun Miller completed the scoring with a late strike as the Alex moved into the play-off zone and recorded their third clean sheet on the bounce. Crewe made all the early inroads, with the excellent Byron Moore providing three crosses which his forwards should have at least connected with. Wycombe had to wait until the 20th minute to have their first shots, long-range efforts from Lewis Montrose and Stuart Beavon which were saved by Rhys Taylor. Taylor then leapt to keep out Scott Rendell's looping header before Clayton Donaldson and Luke Murphy went close at the other end. Donaldson should have broken the deadlock minutes before half-time but he clipped the ball wide of keeper Nikki Bull and the post when put through by Murphy. Moore hit the crossbar with a cross-cum-shot before Shaun Miller then bamboozled David Winfield with a superb flick but the striker's 30-yard volley just missed the target. Donaldson gave Crewe the lead with two goals in quick succession. First he left Winfield for dead before clipping the ball over Bull in the 71st minute. Then sixty seconds later he raced onto Danny Shelley's ball and hit a first-time shot low into the bottom corner of the net. Miller put the icing on the cake for the hosts by side-footing home on the rebound after Lee Bell's 86th-minute shot crashed back off the upright.
