Matt Tootle netted only his second career goal but Crewe had to share the honours for their fourth game running as Martin Rowlands earned Leyton Orient a 1-1 draw.

Tootle got Crewe off to a flying start as he drove Brendan Daniels' cross into the top corner after only a minute of play.

Max Clayton should have extended the Railwaymen's lead in the seventh minute, but the teenage striker was slow to react on the edge of the box, allowing Os goalkeeper Ryan Allsop to get off his line to make a block.

Veteran midfielder Rowlands levelled when he smashed a right-footed shot into the bottom corner in the 19th minute.

Ajay Leitch-Smith, slipped clear by Tootle, went close to restoring Crewe's lead six minutes before the interval, but the striker's well-hit drive flew back off the post.

Orient had the better of the second-half, but failed to make the most of long periods camped in the home half before the Os had Anthony Griffithdismissed in stoppage time after a late lunge on Luke Murhphy earned him a second booking.
