Ajose on target again to lift Crewe

Crewe climbed seven points clear of the relegation zone after a 1-0 victory over fellow strugglers Yeovil.

Nicky Ajose scored the only goal of the game by getting to the end of Marcus Haber's cross from the right to tap in the winner seven minutes before the interval. It was the on-loan Leeds striker's seventh goal in 11 appearances for the Railwaymen.

Ajose had the chance to finish off the game before the final whistle when sent through one-on-one against goalkeeper Artur Krysiak, but his shot flew a whisker wide of a post.

A couple of minutes before the opening goal Ajose collected a through-ball from Jamie Ness, but the forward's weak shot was a disappointing finish.

Gozie Ugwu missed an earlier chance to put Yeovil into the lead when he spurned a close-range effort, with young Crewe goalkeeper Ben Garratt saving comfortably.

Former Crewe player Ajay Leitch-Smith went down from George Ray's challenge in the area in the 10th minute but the visitors' penalty appeals were waved away.
