Us sink sorry Crewe

Second-half goals from Freddie Sears, Rhys Healey and Sanchez Watts enabled Colchester to canter to a 3-0 win at bottom-four rivals Crewe.

There were calls for the Alex board to step down after they slumped to their seventh defeat in nine as the Us blitzed them with three goals inside 10 minutes.

Colchester, who have taken eight points from five games under new boss Tony Humes, always looked sharper in the final third.

But they could have fallen behind just before the interval after Crewe's best player, teenager Billy Waters, rounded keeper Sam Walker but failed to hit the net from a difficult angle thanks to a decisive block from Ben Gordon.

After the restart Manchester City loanee Greg Leigh drove over from the edge of the box and then inexplicably headed against the post from only five yards after Waters delivered from the byline.

But Sears showed a more clinical edge when he drove into the bottom corner after Watt's cross from the left was allowed to slip across the six-yard box after 57 minutes.

Six minutes later substitute Healey bounded onto Gavin Massey's pass and drove past Ben Garratt.

A comedy of errors saw Colchester add a third in the 67th-minute with Matt Tootle unable to prevent Watt's close-range finish hitting the net after a Sears cross was deflected goalwards by Alan Tate.
