Draper seals derby victory

Ross Draper's first-half strike secured a 1-0 victory for Macclesfield at Crewe and stretched the Silkmen's unbeaten run to three games.

Crewe couldn't convert their early dominance into clear-cut chances, with Byron Moore firing their best effort into the side-netting.

Ajay Leitch-Smith's looping header looked goalbound but Town goalkeeper Jose Veiga easily plucked the ball from the air.

The Silkmen stunned the Alex by taking the lead in the 19th minute when Draper was allowed to race forward and drill a 25-yard shot beyond Alex goalkeeper Steve Phillips.

Crewe striker Shaun Miller should have done better than blaze over from the edge of the box after the break, but still it was the visitors who looked more likely on the break.

Lewis Chalmers fired a long-range strike over while Ben Tomlinson flashed a volley wide at the far post.

Miller thought he had levelled but his 25-yard shot came back off the upright, and Scott Kay came to the Silkmen's rescue with a last-ditch block to keep out Leitch-Smith's shot.

Chalmers then deflected Harry Davis's goalbound shot and Matt Tootle hit the post at the death as the Silkmen held on for the three points.
