Railwaymen ruin Robins` run

Cheltenham's five-match winning run in League Two was ended by Crewe, who edged a tight match 1-0 at the Abbey Business Stadium.

Harry Davis' 54th-minute penalty separated the teams after Sido Jombati tripped Luke Murphy in the area with a rash challenge.

Goalkeeper Steve Phillips kept Crewe in the match with a string of smart saves in the first half, turning over shots from Jimmy Spencer and Luke Summerfield.

At the other end, Scott Brown saved well from Antoni Sarcevic after a fine pass from Byron Moore as Crewe went close to a second goal. And Dario Gradi's men also had two more penalty appeals turned down by referee Keith Stroud.

Phillips kept out everything Cheltenham could muster and substitute Jeff Goulding wasted a good chance at the far post when he failed to keep down his shot. Fellow substitute Brian Smikle also went close to rescuing a point for the home side.

Brown was pushed forward for a late corner and almost reached a cross, but Crewe held on and celebrated a battling victory.
