Bradford 1-5 Crewe: Report

07 May 2011 20:24
Bantams sign off in sorry style Bradford crashed to a 5-1 defeat against Crewe in what could be their last match at Valley Parade unless the club can do a deal to cut their #750,000 rental overheads. If not then a move to share with rugby league neighbours Bradford Bulls at Odsal Stadium could be on the cards. Both sides went into the final day clash with nothing to play for but pride, but it was the Bantams who signed off nursing their heaviest defeat of the season. Crewe went in front after 12 minutes when Shaun Miller intercepted a misplaced pass from David Syers and took the ball around keeper Jon McLaughlin before shooting into the empty net. Bradford equalised after 22 minutes when Jake Speight was brought down by David Artell and Speight himself scored from the spot. However, the match was settled when a superior Crewe side scored three goals in a 10-minute spell before half-time. Miller added his second after 33 minutes having taken a pass from Byron Moore before leading scorer Clayton Donaldson registered his 28th league goal of the season, beating McLaughlin with a shot from the edge of the penalty area. Danny Shelley then scored goal number four a minute before half-time when McLaughlin failed to hold his 25-yard shot. Shelley then completed the scoring in the 67th minute with a deflected shot in a crowded goalmouth after two previous efforts had been blocked.
