The left-back was handed the armband before Sunday's pre-season game at non-League neighbours Newcastle Town, replacing fellow defender Julien Baudet in the role after the Frenchman left Gresty Road at the end of last season. Striker Anthony Elding will act as his stand-in after being named the club's vice-captain. Thordarson said: "They are both players who have worked hard and committed themselves. They are positive in their approach and they can help the young players and set a good example on the training ground. "I have always had a good relationship with my captains.
