Alex wait for Donaldson

Crewe hope Clayton Donaldson will be fit for the opening-day visit of Hereford. The striker suffered a knee injury in a pre-season friendly against Wrexham last weekend. "It was a nasty whack and at the time it looked serious so he came off," said Alex boss Dario Grad. "I think he has done a little bit of damage around the knee but the medical team have told me he has a chance of playing so we shall see." Donaldson has been playing alongside Calvin Zola and Shaun Miller as part of a three-pronged attack during pre-season. AJ Leitch-Smith and Byron Moore are on standby should Donaldson not make the start of the campaign. With Steve Phillips still recovering from shoulder surgery, on-loan Chelsea goalkeeper Rhys Taylor is likely to make his debut with fellow summer signings Danny Blanchett, David Artell, Lee Bell and Adam Dugdale all competing for starts in defence.
