The 23-year-old has been hampered by shin splints in recent weeks but, having battled his way into the starting XI under new boss Gudjon Thordarson, he is determined no amount of pain will keep him from his side's cause.

Crewe have won four of their last five games and Pope, who has scored eight goals this season, has no intention of asking for a rest.

"I have shin splints so it's not helping me," he told the Sentinel.

"After every game, I am struggling to walk, but I can keep playing through.

"The only cure is rest, but so long as the team is doing well, I don't see it being a problem. There will be plenty of time to rest at the end of the season."
