Alex look at McWeeney

Crewe have taken former QPR goalkeeper Shane McWeeney on a short trial. McWeeney was released by the Championship club at the end of last season without making a first-team appearance. He has now linked up with Crewe, who are looking for goalkeeping cover due to Steve Phillips being unavailable for the start of the season following shoulder surgery. Rhys Taylor has joined Alex on loan from Chelsea but McWeeney is set to play against Kidsgrove Athletic or Quorn in a pre-season friendly on Monday night as the 20-year-old looks to convince manager Dario Gradi of his ability. Chief scout Neil Baker told The Sentinel: "He'll be training with us for the next few days and then he'll play on Monday night."
