Alex boss bemoans lack of time

The Icelander must mastermind a home victory over League One champions Leicester on Saturday to keep Crewe up, although results elsewhere could still condemn Alex to football in the bottom tier for the first time in 15 years. When Thordarson took over at the turn of the year, Crewe were seven points from safety at the foot of the table. His swift transformation brought eight wins in his first 13 league games and moved the club clear of the bottom four. But results took a turn for the worse after a 1-0 win at Colchester in mid-March and Thordarson has since seen his team fail to win in their last nine games, with damaging defeats to Cheltenham and Stockport leaving Alex on the brink of relegation to League Two. "I have never been relegated over a full season and, if I had been here at Crewe from the start, we would not have been in a relegation battle, I can tell you that," said Thordarson. "I have had a decent spell and I have also had bad results, but if you took those away then we have had a fantastic half to the season."
