Quickfire Crewe strike down Stanley

Two goals in three first-half minutes secured Crewe a 2-0 victory over Accrington at the Crown Ground.

Unlike Stanley, the Railwaymen were clinical in front of goal and took the lead against the run of play in the 11th minute.

Top scorer Shaun Miller got the ball on the edge of the area, his shot took a deflection and looped up to Ajay Leitch-Smith at the far post who volleyed home.

Immediately after Wes Fletcher sent a chance just off target for Stanley and Peter Murphy's header was collected by leaping Alex keeper Steve Phillips.

But it was soon two-nil when Byron Moore stayed onside to get on the end of Ashley Westwood's throughball and fired low into Sean Murdoch's net with just 14 minutes on the clock.

Stanley struggled to make their chances count, with unmarked Kevin Long having a strike cleared off the line by Luke Murphy following Craig Lindfield's corner.

Another great opportunity came their way when Fletcher's left wing cross found captain Andy Procter but he somehow fired wide.

Peter Murphy thought he had finally made a chance count for the Reds on the stroke of half-time when Procter's shot was deflected to the midfielder, he rifled the ball goalwards but could only watch as it hit the crossbar and rebounded to safety.

After the break Miller and Lee Bell had chances for the Alex while Stanley substitute Ian Craney curled an effort over, but Dario Gradi's men never really looked in danger of losing the three points.
