Oxford Utd 1-1 Crawley Town: Report
Published: 02 Jan 2012 - 17:31:26
Brilliant Barnett saves Crawley
Tyrone Barnett struck a brilliant last-minute equaliser to give table-topping Crawley a 1-1 draw at Oxford.
With time running out, Barnett lashed a left-foot volley into the roof of the net from 12 yards to extend Crawley's unbeaten away run to eight matches.
Crawley were wasteful in the first half, with John Akinde the main culprit.
Akinde had three efforts in quick succession, but was denied by the outstretched leg of Oxford goalkeeper Ryan Clarke before twice missing the target.
Akinde managed to get in behind Michael Duberry and lob Clarke, only to see the chip drift past the far post, and minutes later he headed over from 12 yards.
Sergio Torres also fired in a spectacular effort at the start of the second half that Clarke tipped over his crossbar.
And Oxford made the visitors pay when striker Jon-Paul Pittman opened the scoring against his old club just three minutes after coming onto the pitch.
Pittman charged down a clearance by goalkeeper Scott Shearer and drilled home a shot from a tight angle.
Alfie Potter went close to a second Oxford goal, Shearer getting down to stop his scuffed shot, and four minutes from time James Constable's 18-yard shot was superbly turned aside by the keeper.
But no-one could argue with Barnett's stunning equaliser.
