Crawley were founded in 1896, playing in the West Sussex League for 5 years. Crawley then entered the Mid-Sussex League and became champions in only their second season in 1902/03. In 1951 Crawley entered the Sussex County League, however after just 4 seasons, they were relegated from the first division. They replied in the right manner however by winning promotion back to the first division, after finishing runners up the following year however the club officials opted out and decided the clubs future would be betterserved playing in the Metropolitan League which catered for both professional and amateur sides.

Crawley became a professional outfit in 1962, and in 1963 they joined the Southern League. During their time here they won the Southern League Merit Cup in both 1970/71 and 1971/72. Crawley were again promoted to the Premiership Division after finishing runners up to RS Southampton in 1983-84 and have stayed there since.
