Gordon Smith boosts Blue Brazil to overdue victory over leaders Forfar

Cowdenbeath picked up their first win in four Ladbrokes League One games as they beat leaders Forfar 2-1 at Central Park.

Forfar's Christopher Templeman missed two early chances, striking an effort over the bar before glancing a header past the post.

Loanee Gordon Smith gave Cowdenbeath the lead with his second goal for the club, controlling Andy Murdoch's ball to complete a fine move with a well-taken finish before the half-hour.

Forfar started the second half in the ascendancy, with Gavin Swankie drawing them level with a neat finish inside the box.

Martyn Fotheringham failed to add a second for the visitors as he pulled his shot wide, before Greig Spence sweetly struck the ball across goal to put Cowdenbeath back in front.

Lewis Allan nearly struck an equaliser for Athletic as goalkeeper Jamie Sneddon made a good save with less than four minutes remaining.
