Malcolm is spot on for Stranraer

Craig Malcolm's last-gasp penalty lifted Stranraer to a 2-1 victory at 10-man Cowdenbeath.

Dean Brett's second-half free-kick looked to have earned a point for the Blue Brazil after cancelling out Ryan Thomson's early goal but Malcolm slotted home a late spot-kick, with the home side's misery compounded by Declan Hughes' red card in injury-time.

The visitors went ahead in the fourth minute when Thomson collected the ball from Jamie Longworth before slotting high past Cowdenbeath goalkeeper Michael Andrews.

The Blue Brazil, who finished bottom of the Championship last season, responded after Dale Keenan had fouled Greig Spence just outside the area, with Brett netting the free-kick.

Despite Cowdenbeath going for the winner, they were hit with a sucker-punch in the final minute when Stranraer were awarded a penalty after Chris Kane handled in the area.

Malcolm slotted home from 12 yards before Hughes saw red in the dying seconds for violent conduct.
