Stirring comeback gives Brechin hope
A fine second-half comeback from Second Division Brechin ensured their play-off semi-final against Cowdenbeath is finely poised at 2-2 going into the second leg.
Cowdenbeath, who finished second bottom in the First Division, took the lead after just four minutes, with Jon Robertson`s cross from the left finding Scott Linton and he picked his spot into the bottom corner from 20 yards.
The visitors were dominant and doubled their advantage in the 26th minute. This time Linton was the provider, crossing for Lewis Coult to head home from inside the area.
Brechin had rarely threatened in the first 45 minutes but they pulled a goal back at the start of the second half.
Jordan Kirkpatrick, who had just entered the action as a substitute, let fly from 25 yards with his first touch and the ball nestled in the bottom corner.
And it was 2-2 shortly afterwards as Craig Molloy`s cross from the right was slammed home by Mitchel Megginson from 12 yards.
City`s David McKenna saw a shot palmed clear by Ludovic Roy and Megginson was unlucky with a close-range volley which was blocked by Thomas O`Brien.
Molloy had Roy scrambling to keep out an audacious 35-yard strike, while Rory McAllister was not too far away in injury time as Brechin finished well on top.
